PostSubject: Great Yarmouth, Norfolk.   Wed Aug 12, 2015 9:14 pm

Well on Sunday we decided to have a family day out at Great Yarmouth. We went as Kelly is soon to be having my second grandchild, so we wanted to go, before the happy event. So myself, Becky, Katie & Jamie went in my car, with Brett, Kelly & Tyler in their car.
A selfie of the four of us about to set off.

The journey down, via the A14, A11 & the A47, was quite uneventful, until we got to the new bypass between Barton Mills & Thetford (A11). Where standing on a bridge over the dual carriageway, was a Policeman with a speed gun, I think he got me as I was doing about 78mph,  maddriver  so in a couple of weeks I will know my fate.  fear
The weather was warming up nicely, so I decided to put the roof of the car down.  sunny  So Becky took a selfie of her & Katie, who looked like somebody from Lawrence of Arabia.

We arrived at Yarmouth at about 10.15, & found a place to park quite easily, as we were early. Thumsup We parked opposite the Sea Life Centre, of which I will be doing a thread on.

Brett, Kelly & Tyler unpacking all of their gear, with Tyler being a bit camera shy.  photographer

We had a very cheeky seagull who had landed on the roof of a car next to us.

And this must have been it's chick, as it seemed to be looking for her/his Mum/Dad.

We went for a walk around the Wellington Pier first, then to the Sea Life Centre next to it.

Afterwards we had a picnic on the grass adjacent. Tyler was having a walkabout lunch.

As it was a very bright & sunny day, the resort was buzzing with people either on holiday or, like us, enjoying a day out.

You could get along the sea front by a variety of modes of transport. The horse & carriage.

Or a train, like a lot of resorts have.

Or the obligatory Donkey rides, still popular.

There is so much to do for all ages at Yarmouth, like crazy golf, a big Fun Fair & a small Fun Fair for example, as I will be doing a separate thread on them as well.

Like most seaside resorts as well, there are plenty of off shore wind farms to be found.

Also an outer harbour had been built on the site of a former Caravan site, where as a family, we had a caravan for a number of years.

There was plenty to do for kids on the beach on a day like this with the slides etc, or a sea trip to see the seals on Scroby Sands, just off shore.

Also a few hearty people braved a swim in the North Sea, we only dipped our toes.  clever

There are 2 piers at Yarmouth, Wellington & Britannia & there used to be a jetty that went out to see, but was taken away as it was too old & unsafe.

Britannia Pier with amusements all around it.

Some of the acts appearing at the Pier Theatre.

This is Regent Road, opposite the Pier, thronged with visitors.

Well maintained gardens along the promenade, with the old Victorian frontage Restaurant's, Hotels & Amusement Arcades.

Also the Marina Centre, a place to go come rain or shine & the Oasis Tower offering views all over Yarmouth & beyond, plus loads of Arcades again.

On show were a couple of different types of car to look at.

Also one in an American style.

A happy loving couple were spotted.  Heart

Also a loving Mother Hen with her brood.

And another couple with a different hair style, who wanted to be noticed, mainly by Katie.  afro

Yarmouth is a typical Victorian fronted seaside resort, with some lovely old buildings, & if you haven't been it is well worth a visit for a day out or a long weekend. Also Norfolk is a beautiful County to visit. We all had a thoroughly enjoyable day out, but we didn't get to see everything Yarmouth had to offer in this visit. But as Arnie says, "We'll be back."
