PostSubject: Brereton & Swettenham, Cheshire   Sat Mar 18, 2017 8:44 am

A couple of weekends ago, we went to visit our friends Phil & Sue in Cheshire for a break, just after Storm Doris had done her thing.  surprised  We got up Saturday morning & decided to go to a place called Brereton Heath then walk to a pub in Swettenham, which is past Holmes Chapel junction 18 of the M6. We were very lucky with the weather, as it was a bright sunny day as can be seen in the following photo's. We reached the car park & set off.

Becky & Sue  wow   getting ready for a wander around the old sand quarry, now a nature reserve.

Myself & Phil posing for a selfie. photographer

What I liked about this place there was plenty of notice boards, describing the change from a sand quarry to a nature reserve, the wildlife & birds to look out for, very informative.

Loves young dream.  Heart

Phil taken by surprise with the two birds that he found. fainting

Sue has found Woody Woodpecker.

Becky sitting at a bird hide, looking at,

nesting birds, ahhh.

The panorama of the old quarry, a very pretty area.

We left the reserve & started our walk to Swettenham for lunch. Next to the reserve was a riding school & stables.

A couple of local toffs posing.  roll eyes

Becky had a dilemma, which path, should I go left or should I go right. scratch

We had to go right as this sign was on the left path.  affraid We were not sure who lives at the Hall but it looked stunning, but not close enough to take photo's I am afraid.

This was 4 cascading pools into one another.

As I said earlier, Storm Doris had battered us all a few days earlier, the rains had caused bank erosion & swelled the river.

The area is well looked after as you can see, by this authority.

A couple of shots of the hills looking towards Derbyshire, as we were close to the borders of the 2 counties.

Just before we reached the hamlet of Swettenham, we came across this uprooted tree. Sue getting back to her roots.  getcoat

It didn't seem to phase the local cat though.

But if it had fallen 20 feet to the left, I wonder how much of this house opposite would have been damaged. eek

We arrived at the hamlet of Swettenham, this was the old school, converted into a beautiful private house.
The local church.

The Swettenham Arms, a fantastic pub, with a wide range of food & drink on offer.

A couple of dogs with a local guy that we made friends with.

We stopped & had lunch then made our way back to the car. By now it had just started to drizzle, but luckily not too hard.
Phil on the way back to the car park.

We had a very enjoyable walk in the Cheshire countryside, & we were lucky with the weather as well. The challenge has been set, to find a similar walk, with a good pub, when Phil & Sue come down to Northamptonshire.  cheers

I forget to say when we walked past the downed tree, it was being cut up for firewood. The size of the tree could keep Cheshire going for a year lol.
