PostSubject: Whitby   Sat Apr 29, 2017 9:37 am

Well we left Robin's Hood Bay & headed to our next destination Whitby. The view from the car heading towards the town.

Yet another Information board, outlining the features Whitby.

The harbour from where we parked the car

More views of the harbour from all sides.

The swing bridge linking the two sides of the town.

A view of the Abbey on the other side of the tributary.

Heading towards the harbour's mouth.

The sands to the north of the town.

A clearer view of the Abbey on the hill.

A view looking back towards the town from the harbour wall.

Not quite summer, but it was a beautiful day for a boat trip.

The pirates were then about to land in the town

Becky posing in front of the lighthouse at the end of the pier.

A sand dredger seemed to be clearing the harbour mouth entrance.

Becky hanging on to the railings for dear life, as she didn't like the gaps between the wood. Saying that we did see a young dog, get trapped for a short time, as it's back leg went through the gap.

The north side of the resort.

The swing bridge was opening as the sand dredger in the earlier photo, was about to go through. https://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Whitby_Swing_Bridge

Here is a short video of the boat going through the bridge & then shutting. It fascinates me as this was built over a 100 years ago.
Plenty of fishing boat trips were available, probably next time.

This is where we were about to eat lunch, highly recommended by James Martin the famous chef. You have to join a queue to get in the restaurant, luckily we didn't wait too long.

Becky eagerly awaiting her lunch.

Me also eagerly awaiting my lunch.

We even knew what boats had caught our fish.

A very comprehensive menu, & not all fish & chips.

We were left in no doubt how fantastic the fish & chips were, they were gorgeous.

Our last view of Whitby heading over the road bridge to the Abbey.

A couple of shots of the Abbey taken on my phone.

A very famous music video featuring Whitby from 1985, with one of my all time favourite songs.

Again we didn't stop for too long, but we thoroughly enjoyed our few hours there & would recommend a visit & not just for the fabulous fish & chips at Trencher's restaurant. We then headed back to Scarborough & our hotel to enjoy the rest of the afternoon,

Thanks for posting Mick, repped.

Off to google Whitby Abbey now and find out why it fell into ruin. The architecture is stunning.
