Once the extension is built TB, you'll see that it would have been an awful lot of extra work getting the new turfs around the back. There won't be the same access available once it's built, you would have to go through the garage and a side door with 80 wheelbarrows full of turf lol

As the others have said Mark the difference is amazing, Are you going to clean and seal the roof as well ? we had ours done a couple of years back and it made a huge difference to the look of the house.

The roof tiles are going to get jet washed H, not sure about sealing them, it's just been re-felted and retiled so it's good to go for 25 years now.

Progress continues, a bit spaspodic due to the rain.
The rest of the old patio and conservatory base was removed and taken away, leaving a clear area.

Foundation trenches were then dug.

And concreted.

Footings were built.

The trenches and inside were backfilled level, and then floor insulation was laid.

Then DPM (Damp Proof Membrane)(strong black plastic) was laid, and the steel mesh to create a suspended floor slab was installed.

And this is were we are now, ready to lay concrete for the oversite tomorrow.

the steel mesh to create a suspended floor slab was installed.

What do you mean . . ? does the concrete fill in, up to and over the mesh . . . if so, why is it called a suspended floor slab?

I'm just confused, as I remember when we were laying solid wood floors, the wood wasn't laid directly on the concrete, but was 'suspended' to give some 'bounce' or 'give' in the floor.

Yes, the concrete is placed so that there is at least 50mm of concrete below the steel mesh, and 100mm over it. The edges of the steel mesh have been cut so that they are directly above the 'sleeper' walls below. The theory being that if the ground below the slab subsides, the concrete slab won't also subside, due to the reinforcing mesh within the concrete.

It'll look similar to this when done. The new patio doors are going to be bigger than the ones on the drawings though.
