BEACH/SEAFRONT

This was my first time to Tossa De Mar, we went with friends Graham, Alison and Christopher, they have been a few times now and love the place so we thought ok lets gave it a go.

This image shows a statue which houses a webcam in the eyes, click HERE to visit the webcam

In the distance is the famous Vila Vella, this oldest part of town is entirely surrounded by a city wall with seven watch-towers, Ill show more of this amazing building later.

The seafront had lots of lovely small restaurants dotted all around the bay, no boards outside letting you know the price of drinks but lots of menus.

Here is a typical price list/menu

Although the resort is geared towards tourism the coast line felt totally unspoilt, and the building's were lovely.

The beaches were spotless and clean.

I think this was the most modern part of the seafront but it didn't look out of place at all, i was really impressed with the whole character of the resort. And there is my pretty daughter which I think makes the picture even better lol

Could imagine this being a fab place to sit in the warmer months over looking the sea.

Well hope you enjoyed my first part of Tossa de Mar, I have lots of photos to sort out but wont be to long for the next lot clap

TOWN CENTRE

This tiny church was in the centre of town, I couldn't resist having a couple of photo's to show you

Tossa De Mar town centre was a very picturesque place with small winding street's and lovely shop's, café's and restaurant's, I loved looking at the old buildings. It was great winding our way around them you never knew what was round the corner.

The small shops in and around the town of Tossa seemed to have an upmarket feel to them, no kiss me quick hats here.

This bar was amazing with its grotto look.

More to follow

Thanks for posting Daryn. Great pics.

I spent a day there once (in the 70's!!!) & have often thought of going back for a holiday. Your review & pics have brought it all back (looks just the sort of place I'd enjoy) so it's now definitely on my "list".

Thanks again - and a rep from me.

PostSubject: IN AND AROUND VILLA VELLA   Sun Apr 22, 2012 5:17 am

OLD TOWN VILA VELLA

This is the famous Vila Vella, this oldest part of town is entirely surrounded by a city wall with seven watch-towers.

Villa Vella was declared a national historic monument in 1931.

By the year 1500 the first houses were built to accommodate population growth.

Half way point. From left to right...... Christopher, Alison, Debbie and Kate

This was a lovely little restaurant half way up the hill towards lighthouse.

The higher we climbed the better the views were getting, amazing scenery which I will show in my next section of this review.

Hey what you doing down there girls hehehe. (Debbie and Alison).

In the 12th century the medieval town was walled off and a castle was built on the highest point of Mt. GuardĂ, this castle was to be replaced by a wind mill, and this in turn by a lighthouse which is still operational today.

SCENERY SHOTS

We have just got back from Tossa De Mar and used this taxi service. Juan was our driver and owner, a well English spoken guy very polite and punctual. Our flight was delayed for hours yet he was still there for us. I can highly recommend him. Here is the link........

Another quality addition to the review section.

I had no Idea what to expect from Tossa De Mar but to be honest it wasn't that. It looks so much nicer than I had ever imagined, I had assumed it was a large and brash resort Embarassed . and not the peaceful and historic place it really is.

Thanks guy's the sand was a bit gritty although we didnt get much beach time lol, we found that time of year it was mostly Spanish people but maybe Graham will be able to tell you what its like other times of the year.

It was a lovely break and the scenery was fantastic, we saw the whole of the resort in the few days we were there although you could see it all in one day.

For me 3/4 nights would be enough, its a lovely place for a few days break but I think a little quite for me for say a 1 or 2 week holiday, mind saying this I wasnt ready to come home, the weather was not very good but I still loved being there and it would be a great place to stay as a central point if you want to go to other part of that coast.

If I went back I would love to explore the off beaten tracks hills etc, its so green and unlike any other part of Spain Ive been too before really lovely.

Yes it was a nice little adventure, Graham it was everything you said it was and I would go back again.

This has been asked a few times (Suse & Graham)

I've highlighted where it is in this sample post from Graham.

Hope this makes it clear.

Fabulous photo's mate. clap clap I agree with H, as I thought that it was a brasher resort than it is, but it is a very historic & "oldy worldy" type of place. cheers
